Sacramento, California, February 4, 2020 – Longtime Brady leaders Amanda and Nick Wilcox were recognized yesterday by both Chambers of the California state legislature with a resolution thanking them for helping to pass more than 80 gun safety laws over the past 15 years. Brady joins the California legislature in congratulating Amanda and Nick for their dedicated and unparalleled service to Brady, Californians, and the gun violence prevention movement.

Brady President Kris Brown reflected:

“Few people have committed as much time and energy to a cause as Amanda and Nick in their fight to end gun violence. Nineteen years ago, gun violence touched their lives personally when their daughter Laura was killed in a workplace shooting. Heartbroken but fiercely resolved, Amanda and Nick turned personal tragedy into public action and, eventually, political triumph. Through tireless and determined personal effort, their work since Laura’s murder has resulted in the passage of 83 gun safety laws in California, making every community across the state safer. Yesterday's resolutions in the state Assembly and Senate recognize this tremendous impact. Brady is proud to support Amanda and Nick in their work and honored to have worked alongside them for the past two decades.”

About Amanda and Nick Wilcox:

Amanda and Nick Wilcox serve as Brady California’s Legislative & Policy Chairs. Supporters of Brady for over 30 years, Amanda and Nick were galvanized by the death of their daughter, Laura, in 2001. Home from college on break, Laura was filling in as a receptionist when a man opened fire and shot Laura four times at point-blank range, killing her instantly. This event left three people dead, including Laura, and injured three others. Amanda and Nick turned this personal tragedy into action, becoming established and effective advocates for state and federal gun violence prevention laws.

Amanda and Nick have made a tangible impact on public safety in California. In over 15 years of work with Brady, they have helped to pass 83 gun bills into law. Their successes in California have also made them topic experts, frequently called upon by other state legislatures for assistance in passing equally effective legislation outside of California. The results speak for themselves.
